Recipe scaler
Double it, halve it, or cook for 6 instead of 4. Paste a recipe and get amounts you can actually measure.

How to scale a recipe
- Paste the ingredient listOne ingredient per line, straight from a blog, a card or your notes. Lines without amounts, like "salt to taste", stay as they are.
- Pick a multiplier or servingsDouble, halve, or go from 4 servings to 6. Amounts are rounded to measures you actually own: 2⅔ cups, not 2.67 cups.
- Check the panFor baking, choose your original pan and the tool suggests the right pan for the new amount of batter.
Smart rounding
Scaled amounts are converted to the most natural kitchen measure. Three tablespoons become 3 tbsp, 12 teaspoons become ¼ cup, and awkward amounts like 1⅛ cups stay exact. Half an egg becomes "1½ tbsp beaten egg".
Metric and US conversion
Switch any recipe to grams and milliliters, or to cups and ounces. Dry ingredients are converted by weight using the right density for each one, so a cup of flour (125 g) and a cup of sugar (200 g) are not treated the same.
What changes when you double a recipe
| Ingredients | Multiply everything, including baking soda and powder, for doubling or halving. |
|---|---|
| Pan size | Double batter needs about twice the pan area: one 9×13 in pan instead of an 8×8, or two of the original pans. |
| Bake time | Same oven temperature. A deeper pan needs more time, a shallower one less; start checking 5 to 10 minutes early. |
| Spices and salt | Scale them, then taste. Strong spices can be started at 1½× when tripling. |
| Pot size | Soups and sauces need a bigger pot and take longer to come to a simmer. |
Frequently asked questions
How do I double a recipe?
Multiply every ingredient by 2, use a pan with about twice the area (or two pans), keep the oven temperature the same and check for doneness a little early or late depending on pan depth. Paste your recipe above and choose 2× to do it automatically.
Can you double a baking recipe?
Yes, most cakes, cookies, muffins and breads double well if you scale all ingredients, including leavening, and use the right pan size. Very delicate recipes like soufflés are best made twice instead.
How do I halve 1/3 cup?
Half of 1/3 cup is 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons.
How do you halve an egg?
Beat the egg and use about 1½ tablespoons, roughly half of a large egg.
Does cooking time change when you double a recipe?
On the stove, a larger amount takes longer to heat. In the oven, time depends on depth: a thicker layer of batter takes longer, while two pans of the original size bake in about the original time.
How do I scale a recipe from 4 servings to 6?
Multiply each ingredient by 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5. Choose Servings in the tool and enter 4 and 6.
